Scheldebroeders is a free browser game. To make it work we keep a limited amount of data about you. Below is exactly what, why, for how long, and what you can do about it. No legal curtain: if anything is unclear, write to us and we will explain it.

Who we are

Scheldebroeders is run by Ferhat Remory, established in Belgium. For anything to do with your data you can reach us at privacy@scheldebroeders.eu. If you ask for a postal address, you will get one.

What we keep and why

Your account

You gave us your username and email address yourself. The name is visible to other players, the email address is not. We use that address so you can recover your password and so we can reach you if something happens to your account. We never store your password as text, only as an encrypted imprint from which the original cannot be worked back out.

Your IP address and device

We keep the IP address you registered with and the one you last signed in with, plus, per sign-in, the IP address and what your browser says about itself. There are two reasons for that. The first is so you can see on your profile which devices you are signed in on and sign one out. The second is so we can recognise several accounts belonging to the same person: that is against the rules because it tilts the game for everyone. Sign-ins that stay quiet for thirty days disappear on their own.

What you do in the game

Your progress, what you own and what you do go into your log. Messages you write in chat, on the forum or to another player stay as long as those conversations exist. Money movements go into a ledger we use to see whether someone is abusing the game.

Payments

Payment runs entirely through Stripe. We never see your card number or your bank details and we store them nowhere. We keep only what was bought, what it cost, when it was paid and the reference Stripe gives the payment. We need that for our bookkeeping, and for that a legal retention period of seven years applies.

How long we keep it

  • Your account: as long as it exists. Ask for deletion and it is gone.
  • Sign-ins and devices: 30 days after they were last used.
  • Your log: 14 days, or longer if you have extended it.
  • The ledger: 90 days.
  • Orders: seven years, because tax law requires it.

Who we share it with

With as few parties as possible, and never for money. What leaves our own server:

  • Stripe (Ireland) handles the payments and remits the VAT.
  • Hostinger (Lithuania) provides the server the game runs on.
  • Google Fonts provides the typefaces. Your browser fetches those from Google, which means your IP address ends up there.

We use no advertising networks, no tracking pixels and no third-party analytics.

Cookies

One, and it is needed to keep you signed in. It contains no personal data, only a random session reference, and it disappears when you sign out. Because there are no cookies for tracking or measuring, there is no cookie bar in your way either.

What you can ask for

European privacy law gives you a number of rights. You can ask us for access to what we hold about you, to correct something that is wrong, to delete your data, or for a copy in a readable file. Send a message to privacy@scheldebroeders.eu from the address you registered with. We answer within a month, usually far sooner.

If we delete your account, your name, your email address and your progress go with it. What you wrote in public conversations stays, detached from your name: otherwise holes appear in other people's conversations. Orders are kept for the reason above.

If you think we are not handling your data properly, you can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority.

Children

The game is not meant for children under sixteen. If we notice an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.

If this changes

If something material changes, we say so in the game before it takes effect. The date at the top says when this text was last updated.
