Terms and conditions

These are the agreements between you and us. They apply as soon as you make an account. We have tried to write them the way you would say them to someone.

Who we are

Scheldebroeders is run by Ferhat Remory, established in Belgium. Reachable at hallo@scheldebroeders.eu. You get our postal address on request.

The game

Scheldebroeders is a free text game set in the Antwerp docks of 1931. Everything in it is invented. Names, families and events are fiction; any resemblance to real people is coincidence. The game does not glorify violence: an attack is a roll with odds and a line in a log.

Your account

You have one. Several accounts belonging to the same person tilt the game against everyone who does play it fairly, and are therefore not allowed. You are responsible for your password and for what happens under your name.

You must be sixteen or older.

What is not allowed

• Creating several accounts, or using someone else's account.
• Exploiting bugs in the game instead of reporting them.
• Scripts, bots or other tools that play for you.
• Threatening, insulting or harassing other players.
• Selling or trading accounts, diamonds or items outside the game.

If you do not stick to this, we can mute you, suspend you or delete your account. For a serious breach that happens without warning and without a refund.

Diamonds and what you buy

Diamonds are play money. You can earn them by playing or buy them with real money. They exist only inside Scheldebroeders, have no value outside the game, cannot be exchanged for money and cannot be transferred to another player.

What you buy with diamonds is time and convenience: skipping waits, more room, a different look. You do not buy strength with them and you do not buy Respect. The leaderboard stays something you play, not something you pay for.

There are no boxes with unknown contents. You always know beforehand exactly what you get and what it costs.

Paying

Payments run through Stripe, which for these sales acts as merchant of record and remits the VAT in your country. The price you see is the price you pay. Delivery is immediate: your diamonds or your membership are in your name within seconds of payment.

Right of withdrawal

Normally, as a consumer you have fourteen days to change your mind about a distance purchase. For digital products delivered immediately, that right lapses as soon as delivery begins, and you expressly agree to that at checkout. Concretely: once the diamonds are in your name, the purchase can no longer be withdrawn.

Did something go wrong, were you charged twice, or did nothing arrive? Write to hallo@scheldebroeders.eu and we will sort it out. A mistake on our side we refund.

If the game stops

This is a game made by one person. It may happen that it ceases to exist. If it does, we say so at least thirty days in advance in the game and by email, and we refund diamonds you bought in the last thirty days and have not yet spent. Beyond that, a purchase gives no right to a game that runs forever.

The game can also be down temporarily for maintenance or because of a fault. We do our best to keep that short, but we cannot promise it is always reachable.

Seasons

The game runs in seasons. At the end of one, Respect and district ownership go to zero and everyone starts level again. Your cash, your diamonds and your items stay. That is part of the game and is not a loss we compensate.

What we are not liable for

We do our best, but we are not liable for damage arising from use of the game, except where it results from intent or gross negligence on our side. What you can recover from us is never more than what you paid in the twelve months before.

Nothing here takes away your rights as a consumer. Where a statutory rule says something different from these terms, the law applies.

If this changes

If we adjust these terms, we say so in the game before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can have your account deleted.

Which law applies

Belgian law. If we cannot work it out together, the courts of Antwerp have jurisdiction. As a consumer you can also turn to the European online dispute resolution platform.
